FCiências.ID – Association for Research and Development in Sciences (FC.ID), is a Non-Profit Private Association, endowed with legal personality. It was created in 2017 as a common initiative of Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) - a Higher Education institution - and 6 private companies, in order to support, potentiate and develop Research and Development (R&D) and innovation activities of its seven associates, while, simultaneously enhancing FCUL strategic partnerships with market and services companies, therefore creating a more challenging environment for research and innovation.

The research unit within FCiências.ID involved in this project was LASIGE, the highest ranked Computer Science research unit in Portugal. LASIGE performs R&D in the area of Computer Science and Engineering with Research Lines of Excellence in: Accessibility & Ageing, Cyber-Physical Systems, Data & Systems Intelligence, Health & Biomedical Informatics, Reliable Software Systems, and Resilient Distributed & Networked Systems. LASIGE provided physical workspace, computational support, and full access to the unit’s infrastructure. This project incorporated two research lines, Health & Biomedical Informatics and Data & Systems Intelligence, which encompassed the scientific work in LASIGE aiming at generation of new knowledge in Life and Health Sciences.

Role within KATY

FC.ID participated in WP4 (Domain knowledge graph backbone construction; connecting -omic knowledge to patient data), leading Tasks 4.1 and 4.3. FC.ID was responsible for developing innovative approaches for the construction of an integrated Knowledge Graph by matching relevant ontologies and vocabularies and linking patient EHR and omics data. FC.ID also participated in WP5 in the development of XAI strategies that explore KGs. Additionally, FCID will contribute to WP1, 2, 3 and 8.
